Arenig Fawr is a mountain in Southern Eryri (Snowdonia) between Trawsfynydd and Bala and is the highest member of the Arenig range (854m) with Arenig Fach, a smaller neighbouring mountain, lying to the north. It is surrounded by Moel Llyfnant to the West, Rhobell Fawr to the South and Carnedd y Filiast to the North East.
It's a beautiful, peaceful area with lovely views of the surrounding countryside and mountains.
At the Arenig Fawr summit you will find a trig point and a memorial to eight American aircrew who died when their Flying Fortress bomber crashed during World War 2 which makes this an interesting historical feature to the hike.
On a clear day you can see Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), Y Glyderau and the Carneddau range to the north, Cadair Idris and Yr Aran mountains to the south.
The terrain can be boggy at times and has sheep trails in certain areas. There is also a small bothy by Llyn Arenig Fawr.
